Crossings عبور

with Sholeh Asgary

04 A glowing red suspended form fills a domed performance space, with the audience seated below — Crossings / عبور عبور

Crossings / عبور is an ongoing transdisciplinary collaboration with Iranian-born sound artist Sholeh Asgary. Taking the Epic of Gilgamesh as a departure point, it excavates the relationship between racialized necropolitical destruction, forced displacement, and bodies in protest across time and space.

The work takes the form of electro-acoustic expanded-cinema performances — composed of sound, moving image, text, Iranian and Arabic vocal traditions, and sonic installations — and carries a community-workshop component, working throughout from a feminist, refugee-centered, transnational approach. It belongs to the same container project, Past and Future Form I & II, as At the Edge of the Sea. The first chapter was developed during a 2023–2024 Los Angeles residency at CultureHub; a second chapter was selected for a 2023 Artist Residency with the Paul Dresher Ensemble, extending the series through electro-acoustic invocation, oral history, film, poetry, and live performance.
